My studio is located in a beautiful tranquil environment. I’ll take you through hand-building techniques so you can build what you love at your own pace.
WHAT DO YOU DO IN A BEGINNERS CLASS
In the beginner's class you will learn about preparing your clay, and techniques you can use to make your forms, from pinching to coiling and building with slabs. It's all about being relaxed and finding your happy place.
First, you build with soft clay, the first lesson we normally do two items, nothing too difficult as that comes later. The clay then dries until it's 'leather hard, at which time you can finish by stamping, carving, imprinting, etc.
The items are then left to become bone dry (usually a few days). After that, they are placed in the kiln to be 'bisque' or 'biscuit' fired. At this stage, you can apply your glaze. It is then fired again - this time at a higher final temperature.

I usually have 4 to 5 students in my class.
FEES
I charge R650 for two classes per person - as you have to return a second time to glaze your pieces (hence no option to just do ONE class) - or R1 200 per person for four classes. One class per week. The classes are three hours... time can go quite fast when you're letting your inner creativity out!

Pottery for me is a form of meditation; I can get lost for hours creating my designs while listening to relaxing music. The challenge of making something new and inspiring is the driving force behind my work. I love creating something where the end result is totally unknown until the moment the kiln is opened.
My life changed on the 25th of July 2020 when I received a phone call from a lady asking me if I give Pottery lessons. I told her that I didn't mind sharing what I've learned over the years and that I'm keen to give one-on-one lessons. I immediately fell in love with teaching. It really felt like I was made to teach pottery. I love sharing my gift.
